About this project:
Built in the 1800’s, and located in rural Michigan, this farmhouse is the home of a schoolteacher, her husband and their young daughter. However, the original home did not have the space needed for a growing family. The owners wanted to add more living space and a garage. The challenge was to not lose the style of the old farmhouse.
Working with the clients, Ekocite Architecture designed an addition that seamlessly integrated with the existing structure. To maintain the look of the original home, the addition was placed off the back of the house. By doing this, passersby and visitors only see the original historic farmhouse from the road.
Included in the project:
- Upstairs family room with a vaulted ceiling.
- New entryway with covered porch and foyer.
- New kitchen using original gable fascia boards for a unique, historic look.
- Child’s bedroom with a private bath.
- Main floor laundry room.
- Attached two-car garage.
