About this project:
A Bloomfield Hills, Michigan couple updating their ranch house had one last project to tackle: replace a poorly built sunroom. The challenge was to create a new look for the house while also using the existing sunroom’s slab foundation. Additionally, the original structure wasn’t heated, and the foundation made adding heat difficult.
Working closely with the clients, Ekocite Architecture came up with a design that fit their requirements. The original sunroom was torn down and a new one, with several large windows and a cathedral ceiling, replaced it. The new sunroom, with its steep pitch roof, now makes the house standout while taking advantage of its southern exposure for the winter sun.
Included in the project:
- Designs utilized the sunroom’s southern exposure for the winter sun.
- Floor-to-ceiling windows surround the room for maximum sunlight.
- Cathedral ceiling makes the room more spacious and open.
- A seamless integration of a steeper pitched roof with the existing home.
- Cork floor placed over the cement adds comfort and warmth.
- Radiated heat was added, accommodating the slab foundation limitations.
Looking for a new sunroom? Let's talk about it. We’d love the conversation.
